I am happy to report that I am finishing up the 3-5th grade websites for their end of year projects. Students will be able to start these projects at the beginning of next week. I am excited that we were able to work past the difficulties in implementing new software and subscriptions to get this service up and working. I will be doing final editing and polishing this week. Check the frontpage as our projects will be popping up into our weekly highlights this weekend!
Interactive Fiction:
Students in grades 1-5 will be working their way through various interactive fiction. Similar to paper choose your own adventure books interactive fiction is an online text-based game. Students use command prompts and specific language to navigate their characters through the story. Students in 3-5 will be working with this for the next week where as our younger students will spend more time exploring, playing, and creating interactive fiction.
Reflection:
Students have made a lot of awesome discoveries in our "genius hour" explorations these last two weeks. Using the district resource (available on our reachlinks.info page) Brain Pop and Brain Pop Jr students were able to engage in a variety of different topics and explore areas of their own interests. Students were also able to make community connections with the game "Citizen Scientist" which was developed at the UW and tested in our own schools! Students loved interacting with a game which was based entirely in their own city and talks about important issues such as water management, pollutions, and conservation.
